Tips for better crochet

Friday, October 12th, 2007

Knitting and crochet are popular hobbies throughout the United States and the world.  Many people find it relaxing and enjoyable.  It is also a productive hobby that allows people to unwind while also making something with their own hands.  But if you’re just starting out, crochet can be a bit tricky.  Or if you’ve been crocheting for a long time, you may be looking for ways to better your crocheting.  So whether you’re a beginner or an old pro, here are some tips for better crochet.

But first, let’s just review exactly how crocheting is done.  Crochet is a process of creating fabric to make shapes or clothing from yarn or thread.  Crocheting is similar to knitting as it consists of pulling loops of yarn through other loops. It differs from knitting in that only one loop is active at one time, and that a crochet hook is used instead of two needles.

Crocheted fabric is begun by placing a slip-knot loop on the end of the hook, pulling another loop through the first loop, and repeating this process to create a chain of a suitable length. The chain is either turned and worked in rows, or joined to the beginning of the row with a slip stitch and worked in circles, or rounds. Rounds can also be created by working many stitches into a single loop. Stitches are made by pulling one or more loops through each loop of the chain. At any one time at the end of a stitch, there is only one loop left on the hook.

You’ll need two main things to start out: a crochet hook and some yarn.  Crochet hooks come in many types and sizes.  Steel crochet hooks range from 3.5 to 0.75 millimeters in the size of the hook, or from 00 to 14 in American sizing. These hooks are used for fine crochet work.  Aluminum or plastic crochet hooks are available from 2.5 to 19 millimeters in hook size, or from B to S in American sizing.  There are many artisan-made hooks, too, most hand-turned of wood, sometimes decorated with semi-precious stones or beads.

Next, you’ll need some yarn or thread to start off with.  There are five classifications of crochet thread. They are:
1 or Super Fine (sock, baby and fingering yarn)
2 or Fine (baby and sport yarn)
3 or Light (light worsted and DK yarn)
4 or Medium (worsted, afghan and Aran yarn)
5 or Bulky (chunky, craft and rug yarn)
6 or Super Bulky (roving and bulky yarn)
One simple way to better your crocheting is to simple mix up the types of yarn you use.  If you’ve always stuck to the simple medium or bulky yarns, try thinking outside the box and using a super chunky or super fine yarn.  You’ll be impressed with how much better and/or different your work looks.

Another way to better your crocheting is to add some bling to your items.  As you’re crocheting, throw some beads or jewels on the yarn and incorporated it into your item.  You may need a bead spinner to accomplish this, but you should be able to find one at your local handicraft store.

Also, your crocheted work will be greatly improved if you tighten your stitches.  Crochet stitches should be the same size as the shank of your crochet hook. If your stitches are larger than the shank of your hook, you are crocheting too loosely.  Focus on improving your stitches and your crocheted work will be much better.  So no matter what your skill may be, there are always ways to improve your crocheted work.  Ask fellow crochet lovers what they think could improve your products.  And before you know it, your crocheted work will be better than ever before!

What kinds of things you can knit

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

One of the great things about knitting is that there are so many different things that you can knit. One of the reasons why you can knit so many different things is because of the variety of yarns that are available. Yarns come in a variety of fibers, such as cotton, wool, etc. But you can also get yarn in a variety of different weights, not to mention the vast amount of colors that are available when it comes to yarn. And the best news is if you can’t find the color that you are looking for you can always dye your own type of yarn.

Here are some different kinds of things that you can knit.

Scarves:
This is one of the first things that people learn how to knit because it gives them practice on how to knit and there isn’t much turning to a scarf. You simply have to knit in a straight row. This item will allow you to master the basic knitting stitch so that you can move on to other objects. Not to mention the fact that scarves a great gift to give to people who live in colder climates, and if you knit it out of wool you can stay really warm on those cold nights.

Sweaters:
This is another great thing, knitted sweaters are a popular item among certain groups of people, such as the baby boomers. These sweaters always look elegant and they also keep you warm. Once you get really good at knitting you can even add designs in the middle of the sweater or knit a series of designs into the sweater.

Handbags:
While not many people carry hand bags you can still knit them to carry your knitting stuff in. Or you can knit on that matches your sweaters. Handbags are not as easy as scarves, but they are not as difficult as sweaters either. You don’t have as many rounded seams on a handbag and you can make it any size you wish. Another great thing to knit along with a hand bag is a small coin purse that matches.

Doilies:
Those cute little things that you put underneath your plants to help keep your wood tables from getting water damaged can also be knitted. Most people use other techniques to make these items, but you can also knit them using any type of fiber, but they tend to turn out better if you knit them using a cotton yarn that is super fine.

Baby items:
Another popular thing to do is to knit baby items. You can knit booties, mittens, sweaters, pants, dresses, and even teddy bears. The possibilities are endless with what you can do for a baby with knitting. And the best thing is that babies are smaller so you don’t have the huge arms and legs to work with when doing your seams. A thing to keep in mind when knitting things for a baby you want to use yarn that is super fine so that is nice and soft next to the baby’s skin.

Afghans:
These are really popular because they are just a bigger version of a scarf. The great thing about these is that they are perfect to cover your legs in the winter or the summer (if the air conditioning gets to cold). Most people tend to drape these over the backs of couches or chairs as a decoration as well.

When it comes to knitting the possibilities are endless. Basically you can knit almost anything from things you wear to decorations for your house.

How To Create A Beaded Candle Holder

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

Did you know you can make beautiful candle holders for your self or others? This is a craft idea that works for everyone, even your kids, with adult supervision. When starting a new project it is always recommended to go to a craft store or craft website for instructions, idea of patterns, and pricing of materials.

Once you have the idea and cost of the craft project picked out the fun part begins. You can pick to do a simple design with crystal or glass beads that the flame light can bounce off of. You could also do a more detailed beaded candle holder.

For these projects you would need:

1. Glass or crystal beads
2. Wire thread so that it does not melt when the candle holder heats up
3. A pair of wire cutters
4. A pair of pliers.
5. A glass cup or cups that have a groove in the top that you can string the beads on the wire and the wrap it around and glass in the groove.
6. A plain candle stick or sticks that are flat on top and on bottom
7. A block of wood or pieces of wood about 2"x3"
8. Stretchy elastic stings
9. Stencils
10. Pencils
11. Craft glue that dries clearly
12. Small beads for the more detailed candle holder
13. Candles

For the first beaded candle holder you will need the wire cutters, pliers, glass beads, a glass cup or cups. Once you have all the materials, decide in what order or pattern you’ll want to place all the beads. Next you cut a piece of wire about 2 inches longer than you need. You fold the wire on one end to keep the beads from falling off as you string them. Once you have all the beads strung very carefully wrap the beaded wire around the groove in the glass cup.  Wrap all the way around and meet the ends, twist the excess together. Then take the pliers and twist the wire tight so the beads do not slip down. Cut the excess off and place a candle inside and light it; then sit back and watch the colors bounce off the beads.

Another idea for a beaded candle is taking a preformed or plain candle holder and beads, stretchy elastic string, scissors and craft glue. You can make several bracelet rings that are the size of the straight space between the top flat candle stand and the wide base and sting. You can string the beads and then stretch them over the top or base and stack them up the middle or string them and tie them on one at a time. When you place the final top and bottom bracelet on the middle, you need to glue them in place to keep the others from slipping. If they are all a little loose, you can glue them to the middle as you go so that you do not have gaps. Once the glue dries you can place a candle on the flat top and enjoy.

Many like to make a beaded candle holder that takes a little more effort and requires tweezers and a stencil with a pattern. Use the extra small beads and craft glue, and a flat or smooth surface that you can draw a pattern on even a block of wood would work. Take the stencil and wrap it around the item you picked to draw on in this case a piece of wood and start to trace the stencil pattern onto the wood. Once you have the pattern you desire trace on the wood, the next step is to pick what color of beads to out line the traced pattern and what colors you’ll want to fill it in with. Note, in leaves and solid patterns you can use more than one color to give it more of a natural look. Then pick up the bead with the tweezers and dip it in the glue. Then place it on the pattern where you want it to go. Repeat this step till you have completed the pattern or picture the way you want it. Let the glue dry and then place a candle on top and look at your fine work.

You can see there are many ways to make a beaded candle holder. Just have to decide how you want it to look. You can find information on crafts like this in many places such as the local library, internet, craft stores, and even sometimes local classes

Where to find great paper craft idea–free!

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

Everybody loves to receive stuff for free and paper crafters are no different. In fact if you do paper crafting for a hobby you are probably always on the look out for new paper craft ideas. Some of your best resources to find these ideas are through magazine subscriptions, there are numerous magazines that are dedicated to the world of crafting, or you can attend crafting classes for a small registration fee. But if you don’t want to spend money on obtaining paper craft ideas the good news is that there are ways to get the ideas for free.

Here are some tips on where to find great paper craft ideas for free.

Tip one:
One of the best places to find great paper craft ideas for free is online through the use of search engines. The internet is a great resource when it comes to looking for any type of project idea. There are numerous websites that offer free craft ideas for kids and adults; they also offer numerous craft ideas for a variety of different levels. All you need to do to find these websites is to type in "paper craft ideas" into a search engine and you will get back thousands of results. Some websites might require you to register with their website for free (meaning no paid dues or memberships) in order to access their information, but it could be worth it.

Tip two:
Another great place to find free paper craft ideas is on television. There are numerous day time television shows that offer craft segments or that dedicates their entire show to a variety of different craft ideas. You can usually get the instructions and supplies that you will need from the television show directly. But if you need patterns or other items to complete the craft you have two choices you can mail in a request or you can print the pattern from the television or craft shows website. Keep in mind that many of your day time news programs will also provide craft ideas during holiday seasons.

Tip three:
While this might not seem entirely ethical to you it happens rather often in the crafting world to help people get ideas, so you shouldn’t feel guilty. Besides the fact most of these ideas are available in craft stores or online as well. But what some people will do is go to boutiques or craft shows at the fairgrounds to see what other people are making. By looking at what other people are making you can get new ideas of your own or you can think of ways to improve what others are making. Or you can simply make what others are making.

Tip four:
Another great place to find paper craft ideas for free is your local fabric or craft stores. Many times they will have fliers that offer classes (sometimes these classes are for free) that will teach you how to make certain crafts. Or you can find other people to talk to inside the stores who have the same passion for paper crafting that you do and get ideas for them. Often times craft stores will put out a calendar that offers a list of the crafts they will be focusing on that month, and some of them include free instructions. But keep in mind that not all of your craft or fabric stores will do this.

Tip five:
If you don’t currently have a subscription to a crafting magazine you can still find out what is inside the issue. One of the best places to go to read and look at magazines thoroughly is the library; they will even let you photocopy the pages you need. But the best thing about libraries is in addition to the magazines they also carry numerous books on the subject.

How to create a unique vase

Monday, October 8th, 2007

When you buy a "unique" vase from a franchise you have exactly the same vase as everyone else who wanted a "unique" vase.  Just what you were looking for, right?  I mean we all love to be just like everyone else.  Well, except maybe when it comes to decorating our homes and giving gifts, then individuality gives us the edge.

There are many ways to bring home that "one-of-a-kind" vase and still have it be your own.  With any amount of effort you can make a vase fit perfectly in your home, turn a vase into a unique gift for a friend, or spend some quality time with your child making a memory.

Most of these ideas would work to liven up any boring glass vase or any size clay pot.  Some ideas are for things that can be used to replace the typical vase.

For the intense crafter

Use grout and small glass tiles to cover a vase and make it match perfect to your décor.
Take a clay pot and cover the whole thing with joint compound and make a mosaic with all colors of marbles or broken glass.
Make use of your old clear light bulbs.  Take out the center wires and use another wire to hang them down together using suction cups on a window.  They can hold little flowers and really brighten up a room.

For the spur of the moment crafter

Any empty baby food jars, liquor bottles, pickle jars, canning jars, or anything big enough to hold a flower can be made into a decoration.
Cute ribbon, string, wire, raffia, or baling twine can be tied around to add lots of personality to your vases.
Cover the boring glass with stickers, material scraps, dried leaves, scrapbook paper, or tissue paper to hide the part of the flower that no one cares about.
To hold it all together you can use any type of glue, tape, or even rubber cement.  Especially for the tissue paper, watered down glue works perfect.
Adding bows, polka dots, stripes, or any bold pattern can add a lot without taking away from the beautiful flowers inside.
Of course there is always paint.  The sky is the limit with a few colors and a paint brush.  And what better way to match than with extra paint from another project.

For kid crafters (or even kid-at-heart crafters)

Something as simple as a laundry detergent scoop with a little bit of creativity makes a great wheel barrow vase.  (Great mother’s day gift idea!)
Markers run when they get wet, so a paper colored with markers and painted over with watered down glue would make a neat tie-dyed look when stuck to a vase.
A toilet paper or paper towel roll also holds lots of potential, especially with kids.  But I would think twice before watering a flower in one, so this would be a good time to explore paper flowers too!

Any of the stuff listed above or anything found around your home has potential for a gorgeous vase.  Most often just a simple adjustment can add so much to your everyday vase.  How much you want to put into it is really up to you.

This list is very incomplete and hopefully can spark other ideas for even more and even better vases.  If you are having trouble coming up with ideas, ask a kid, there is a good chance they did a project at school recently with stuff that never even crossed your mind!

How to use the Cricut scrapbooking machine

Sunday, October 7th, 2007

Introduction

The Cricut scrapbooking machine is made by Provo Craft.  The Cricut is a machine that cuts shapes of various sizes out of paper.  In essence, the Cricut is a die-cut machine.  The Cricut scrapbooking machine requires the use of cartridges to make the various shapes and letters.  The Cricut machine is most popular among scrapbookers.  However the Cricut machine is great for teachers to use to decorate classrooms, for card makers, almost anyone who has a need to decorate something can benefit from the Cricut.

Instructions

The Cricut scrapbooking machine has been designed to be very user friendly.  By following some very simple steps you can make beautiful cut-outs of any shape that is contained in the cartridges that you have.  Below is an outline of these steps in easy to follow instructions as well as more details about the items used in each step:

Steps to using the Cricut machine

1.    Choose your Cricut cartridge – The Cricket machine comes with one or two basic cartridges so you will need to buy more cartridges for different shapes.  Cartridges range in price from about $60-88 depending on where you buy them.

2.    Insert your Cricket cartridge into the Cricut machine – There is a place at the front of the machine in the right corner where the cartridge will need to be placed.

3.    Insert the paper – Insert a piece of paper that is not too wide for the Cricut machine but wide enough for whatever size graphic you choose to cut out.  Cricut offers a line of Cricut papers that you can buy that are cut to the exact size of the mouth of the machine.

4.    Put on your coordinating key board face plate – There is a faceplate that coordinates with each Cricut cartridge.  Each faceplate has small pictures of the graphics on that cartridge so it is easy to choose which graphic you want to cut out.  Just push a button.

5.    Pick a size – The Cricut machine can cut your letter or shape out in any one of 12 sizes that range from 1" to 5 ½".  Choose the size that you would like.

6.    Watch the Cricut go to work – The Cricut blade will cut out the shape that you selected form the cartridge in the size that you specified.

The downside to the Cricut machine

Although the Cricut machine has the possibility to cut out many thousands of different shapes in different sizes, you have to purchase additional cartridges in order to have all of these options.  With the Cricut ranging in price from $250-300, and each cartridge being an additional $60-88 on top of that, the whole Cricut system can become quite expensive.
Additionally, you will have to make sure that you cut a piece of paper to the right size before putting in the machine so that it does not move while the blade is cutting it and so that the entire shape fits on the paper.  A common complaint among early model Cricut owners is that the size of paper that you have to put in the machine is often so large that on a smaller cut out you have a lot of scrap paper left over.  The Cricut blade is powerful so it can cut through your heavier cardstocks, but some users have found that the blade tend to be harder on thinner papers as it pulls lightweight papers out of place during the cutting process.

Conclusion

Despite the disadvantages, if you are the type of person who spends a lot of money on paper supplies or die-cuts, if you are going to use this machine as part of a business, or if you do not mind the hefty price tag, then it is definitely worth your while.

Types of decorative beads, and their uses

Saturday, October 6th, 2007

If you are interested in using beads for jewelry, crafting or other art forms it would be helpful to know about the different types of decorative beads and what they can be used for. It is pretty common for any type of decorative bead to be used for any kind of jewelry making, but some beads are actually not recommended for jewelry making due to their characteristics. There are also other beads that are better suited for arts and crafts instead of jewelry making.

Here are the types of decorative beads, and their uses
Chevron beads – these types of beads are a special kind of glass bead that was originally made for the slave trade in Africa. They are made up of many consecutive layers of colored glass, with the core being formed as a star shaped mold and can have anywhere from five to fifteen points. Also the layers of glass can be of any color, but are traditionally red, white, and blue. These beads are usually used for jewelry.
Dichroic beads – these are glass beads that have multiple layers of micro-thin metals on top of the glass.
Ethnic beads – these are another type of trade bead, but they are used for specific purposes in certain countries. They can be used to make rosaries, used for ceremony jewelry or can be used to make jewelry to be buried with the dead.
Faux natural beads – these beads are basically any kind of imitation of original material such as gemstones, pearls, rocks, minerals, precious metals and ivory.
Fire polished beads – these beads are another type of glass bead, except they are faceted and are very popular to use when making jewelry. They come in sizes from 3 mm to 22 mm. The pattern of the edges are always the same, which is why they can be confused with lead crystal beads.
Furnace glass beads – these beads are usually used for art purposes. And they are made using traditional glass working techniques that are often used to make art glass objects. You can use these beads for other purposes, but because of their design and shapes you mostly find them in art projects rather than jewelry.
Lampwork beads – these are another form of glass beads that are made by using a torch to heat a rod of glass and spinning the resulting thread around a metal rod covered in bead release. After the base bead has been formed other colors of glass are added to create numerous designs.
Lead crystal beads – these are great beads for jewelers and hobbyists. They have a high content of lead oxide, which makes them crystal rather than glass. Because they are crystal they sparkle more than glass beads and are often multi-faceted so that the resemble gemstones. These types of beads are often used for crafts and jewelry where crystal is needed. Do not confuse these beads with fake crystal beads.
Millefiori beads – these types of glass beads are made of plain wound glass bead cores and thin slices of cut cane which are pressed into the bead surface. This technique forms mosaic like patterns
Pressed glass beads – these type of beads are a glass bead that have been made from a mold to give it its shape. These beads can have holes punched into in pretty much any direction.
Seed beads – these beads are pretty much uniformly shaped, meaning that they are all the same shape which is a spheroidal shape. They range in size from under a millimeter to several millimeters. This type of bead is a generic term that refers to any small type of bead that is rounded in shape. These kinds of beads are most often used for loom and off-loom bead weaving, but can also be used for simple stringing or as spacers between others beads when making jewelry. The larger beads are used in various fiber crafts as a type of embellishment or are used in crocheting with fiber or wire.
Shell beads – these types of beads are made from sea sheels from a variety of different shelled fish, such as oysters, abalone, etc. You mostly find these beads used in jewelry, art, and crafts.
Trade beads or slave beads – these kinds of beads are pretty much the same thing as Chevron beads and are used for the same purposes.

Tips for knitting

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

No matter what level you are at in knitting you still don’t know everything that you need to know about knitting. Many times people learn secrets and tips from other knitters that can enhance their own knitting projects. So whether you are a beginning knitter or an advanced knitter here are some tips on knitting that you might find helpful.

Tip one:
Something that some people might not know about knitting is that you can combine yarns to get different weights. For example if you need a sport weight yarn you could combine two fingering yarns. Or if you need a worsted weight yarn you could combine two sport yarns. Or if you needed a bulky yarn what you would need to do would be to combine two worsted weight yarns. But you want to make sure that you always check your gauge. Otherwise this is a great way to use up extra yarns you have.

Tip two:
Another good tip is when you are sewing buttons on your garments that have been knitted, you should use elastic thread, rather than yarn. You can purchase the elastic thread at that same fabric stores that you buy your knitting supplies at. By using elastic thread instead of yarn your buttons won’t pull on the knitted fabric or cut the yarn after you have worn the items several times, basically elastic thread makes the button more durable for longer use.

Tip three:
Another good idea is to put plastic or rubber knitting needle points on the tips of your scissors so that you don’t accidentally ruin other things in your bag. You never know when your scissors might accidentally open and cut through a piece of yarn you have been working with, or snag that new baby blanket causing it to pull and tear.

Tip four:
Rather than using moth balls, which can stink or cause your wool to have an unpleasant smell you can use small chunks of Irish Spring Bath soap to help keep the moths away. Not only will it help keep the moths away it will also leave your wool smelling fresh and clean.

Tip five:
Rather than binding off you should leave your shoulder stitches on needles or stitch holders. Once you have completed both the back and front of the item you should knit the two sides together and bind off at the shoulder seam. By doing this you are ensuring that your seam is smooth and flat.

Tip six:
Once you have started to run out of yarn you are going to have to introduce a new ball of yarn to your project, the ball of yarn is known as a skein of yarn. But when joining the new ball of yarn to the old ball of yarn you should knit at least three stitches using both the end of the old ball of yarn and the beginning of the new ball of yarn. After you have done at least three stitches you need to drop the old ball of yarn, meaning you don’t use it anymore, and continue on with the new ball of yarn.

Tip seven:
Another thing to keep in mind is that if you are knitting a stockinette pattern you should put something like a place holder ring or you should tie a piece of yarn to one of the needles to mark your place. This way when the needle with the marker is on is empty and you are starting a new row you will know exactly what stitch you should be using.

Beginner’s guide to window painting

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

There are many different ways and styles to window paint.   If you are interested in beginning window painting there is a lot of technique and instruction available.  There are also several decisions that need to be made before you get started.

The first decision to make is whether you want a permanent window display or if you want a temporary window painting design.

Permanent Window Painting:  Permanent window painting would be a good option if you are looking for a stained glass look or if you want a painted window for the purpose of privacy.

Temporary Window Painting:  If you are looking to paint a storefront window or a commercial building, temporary window painting is probably the way to go.  Often times stores want their windows painted for seasonal displays or with special deals or prices of items.  Temporary window paintings can be used at residences as well if you are looking for a seasonal pattern that will be changed throughout the year.

The next decision to make when window painting is what type of picture or pattern you want.

Purchased Patterns:  There are many patterns available for purchase on the Internet or in local craft stores.  There are a very wide variety of patterns to choose from.  As mentioned earlier, seasonal patterns are available as well as geometric patterns, floral designs, animal patterns and many others.  Most purchased patterns come in 2 different sizes – they are 22×28 inches and 8×10 inches.  These purchased patterns also come with a color key in order to make painting simple and user-friendly.

Create your own Pattern:  Windows can be painted on just the same as painting something on paper.  You have the option to paint whatever picture or pattern you choose.  You can freehand a picture on a window or you can create your own pattern.  If you do want to freehand a design it is recommended that you do sketch something on paper first so as not to make a mistake or get a final product that you are not please with.

The next piece of information needed for window painting is how to go about painting the window and what products you will need.

Paint: If you are doing a permanent window painting you will need different paint than you would for a temporary painting.  Permanent paintings require Enamel paint such as Folk Art Enamel paints, or a professional quality tempera paint such as ProArt.  One could also use an acrylic paint and add a sealer medium to the paint.  A glass or tile sealer medium would work well.   A temporary window painting is simpler.  You only need a regular acrylic paint.  All of these products can be found at a local craft store.

Masking tape:  It is a good idea to tape off areas as you would when painting a room so you don’t get paint in areas where you don’t want it.

A razor blade:  This comes in handy for you can scrape off paint before or during painting.

Paintbrushes:  A good selection of One Stroke brushes in various sizes and styles are a must for the project.

Washcloth and water:  It is a good idea to clean the area before painting a design on it.  Make sure it is clear of any paint for a previous design and clean of any other residue.

Another choice you will need to make before beginning is whether you want to paint the inside or the outside of the window.  In some areas the paint will wear faster on the outside.  But usually if there is some kind of protection from the weather the two will wear at about the same rate. Both will get scratched.  Typically a storefront window painting will last 3-4 months before being re-painted.   Painting the inside of the window is a little bit more difficult because you have to paint backwards.  Typically a beginner would choose to paint the outside of the window because it is easier.

Uses for paper or cardboard crafts

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

If you are a serious crafter you already know that paper or cardboard crafting is becoming on of the latest trends in the crafting world, in fact they have numerous magazines dedicated strictly to paper crafting. But maybe you weren’t aware of this new trend in crafting. Either way paper crafting is becoming more and more popular partly due to the fact that most of the crafts can be made with materials you have at home and the fact that the projects are relatively easy to make.
Here are some uses for paper or cardboard crafts. But another reason that paper and cardboard crafting is becoming so popular is the fact that there are so many different uses for paper or cardboard crafting, not to mention the fact the huge variety of crafts that are available in this catergory.

Use one:
One way that you can use both paper and cardboard crafts is to decorate your home. While most of you might think of paper or cardboard crafts as something that kids make this is not entirely true. There are numerous types of paper or cardboard crafts that are available for sale in many craft stores. So you can buy professional paper or cardboard crafts to spice up that living room or to accent your holiday arrangements.

Use two:
Another great idea for using paper crafts is for gift wrapping. You can actually make your own wrapping paper or gift bags to hand out with your presents on any major holiday. Making your own wrapping paper is also a great way to use recycled paper because you are going to be embossing or painting the paper anyway so it doesn’t need to be brand new paper. You can also use old greeting cards as a form of wrapping paper.

Use three:
Another way that you can use paper or cardboard crafts is to spend quality time with your children. There is a wealth of information about paper and cardboard crafts available on the internet and from the library. You can find a huge list of projects that you can do with your children, as well as step by step directions on how to complete the projects. And the best news is that many times you can do the project with materials and supplies that you currently have at home.

Use four:

Many times it is hard to know what to get a certain person for a holiday or just to show that you appreciate them, but by making a paper or cardboard craft you are giving something from your heart. One great thing you can make from cardboard and paper for the holidays is picture frames to frame your children’s pictures or family pictures, you can even create a collage.

Use five:
If you are a serious crafter you can make paper and cardboard crafts to sell at your local craft fairs or boutiques. Paper crafts are becoming a really popular thing and more and more people are buying them to put on display in their homes. A great thing about paper and cardboard crafts is that they are relatively cheap and easy to make, which means you can sell them for a decent price.

Use six:
Another great use for paper and cardboard crafts is to use them for scouting projects or school projects. Almost all children love to make gifts or crafts that they can give to their parent or hang on the refrigerator.
